During assignments, there are situations where rescuers reach their limit.
The limits can vary; and can be either physical or mental.
A mountain rescue worker cannot be expected to function as a machine, and to put aside all the worries and hardships resulting from a mission. Missions affect everyone, and in whatever form. For the Alpine Association of South Tyrol mountain rescue service, it is of paramount importance that emergency personnel are able to switch off after all operations. For example, the mountain rescue group has cooperated for several years with a group of experienced members, who are also available for other rescuers in case of need. This is the so-called “PEER group”. The mountain rescue group has been trained for this task through special training courses organized by the Institute of Psychology at the University of Innsbruck.
